Make no bones about it – dogs are a girl’s best friend! They are paw-some pals, always there for us when we need them. From puppycuddles to early morning zoomies, there is so much the Glitter Girls love about these adorable animals.

To celebrate our furry friends, we’ve come up with 3 play ideas with puppy-dog themes.

GG play prompts jumpstart sparkling adventures by giving kids a place to begin – the ending is up to them and their imaginations!

Neve & Candy Go to the Groomers

The Play Idea

Neve is treating her puppy Candy to a spa day! She’s brought her to visit Brie, the dog groomer, who’s got all the shampoo she needs to make Candy sparkle and shine. With a few scrub-a-dub-dubs and some tender loving care, Candy’s multicolored fur will be super soft and squeaky clean!

(GG’s playsets are for pretend purposes only. Do not use real water!)

What Kids Can Learn

Dogs need TLC, too! During playtime, encourage your kiddo to apply what they’ve learned about self-care to their plush pet. Taking care of a toy will nurture their skills in compassion and empathy! As a bonus, incorporating hygiene into play can help kids feel positive about their daily regimens, too!

Lacy Brings a New Puppy Home

The Play Idea

Oh, happy day! Lacy has adopted a teckel puppy, Slim! He is black and brown and as sweet as can be. Before bringing Slim home, Lacy made sure to get her puppy all the accessories he’ll need: a colorful carrier, food and water bowls, a big bag of food, treats, a collar, a leash, litter bags, and lots of toys for him to play with. Lacy is ready to be a dog mom!

What Kids Can Learn

Getting a new pet is a dream for many little ones. But pets can be a lot of work! With this play idea, talk about what it would take to welcome a four-legged friend into your home and how responsibilities could be shared. Who would go for walks? Who would brush its teeth? Real or plush, family pets can teach kids a lot about responsibility!

Maggie Goes to Obedience School

The Play Idea

It’s Maggie’s first day of obedience school! Teacher Jana is going to show her how to do tricks, like shake paw, roll over, sit, and stay. For Maggie, every new trick is a challenge, but Jana is with her every step of the way. When training is done, Maggie will get a fancy certificate with her paw print stamped on it! If all goes well, she might even train for an agility competition.

What Kids Can Learn

A situation like this can teach kids about empathy, patience, and understanding. Ask, why is it important to train a dog? Which skills does it take to train them? And why should Jana be gentle with Maggie? Then, guide your little one to the right answers.
