Make your weekend sparkle with DIY face masks! Made with wholesome, edible ingredients, each of these masks are easy to make, super fun, and perfect for sharing with the kiddos you love. Have an at-home spa day and learn how these ingredients are not only great for your tummy but great for your skin!

How to Make Face Masks

For each of the recipes below, simply combine the ingredients by mashing them together or by using a blender. Apply the mask to the face, gently, and allow it to sit for about 15 minutes. Wash off with warm water and pat the skin dry with a soft towel.

If you want to make your own, choose between banana, avocado, strawberry, or cucumber as your base ingredient. Then, add a tablespoon of yogurt and a tablespoon of honey. You can also add a bit of oatmeal or brown sugar to help exfoliate the skin. Get your kiddo involved, get creative, and make any combination you like with the mask recipes below!

Dos and Don’ts of Face Masks for Kids

While kids don’t necessarily need any skincare, they can engage with face masks as a form of play! Joining you in a little cosmetic fun is like playing dress-up, which drives creativity and self-expression. We love that! With this activity, you can let your kiddo indulge in a “grown-up” activity that is 100% safe!

So, remember that this activity is just for fun. Kids have delicate skin that is perfect as it is, so it is best that you stick to natural and soothing ingredients that won’t harm the skin. Steer clear of anything artificial or acidic, and just enjoy this bonding activity!

Do:

  • Have fun
  • Use edible ingredients
  • Try to relax
  • Eat leftover ingredients

Don’t:

  • Use artificial ingredients
  • Use lemon juice or harsh chemicals
  • Scrub hard
  • Leave the mask on for over 30 minutes

Homemade Face Mask Recipes

Avocado Banana

Holy guacamole! The avocado in this mask is great for skin elasticity, plus it helps to reduce redness and inflammation. And for the kids? It’s a silky-smooth sensory experience that’s also a fun shade of green!

  • Half a banana
  • Half an avocado
  • 2 tbsp plain yogurt

Oatmeal Banana

The Glitter Girls go bananas for bananas! They’re packed with vitamins and minerals – like potassium and vitamins A, B6, and C – that are amazing for both your skin and your overall health. Oatmeal also has antioxidants that help to soothe dry, itchy skin.

  • Half a banana
  • 1 tbsp oatmeal
  • 2 tbsp plain yogurt

Top this face mask with naturally colored sprinkles for extra giggles!

Cucumber Honey

Cucumbers are a healthy snack that are rich in vitamin E, which helps to moisturize and soften the skin. They also contain silica, an important compound for building collagen. An added bonus to this mask is that it’s oh-so soothing. It feels really nice!

  • Half a cucumber
  • 1 tbsp plain yogurt
  • 1 tbsp of honey

Strawberry Sugar

Know a kiddo who loves strawberries? Strawberries contain salicylic acid, a common ingredient in beauty products that helps to exfoliate the skin, which reduces acne and keeps pores clear. And hey – they’re yummy!

  • A handful of fresh strawberries, mashed
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
